During a session with me, you can expect a thoughtful and collaborative approach with you the client being acknowledged as the expert in your own truth, reality and experience; and me being your objective guide throughout the process. I am very warm and friendly, and maintain a non-judgmental stance in the experiences of my clients. In addition, I have a keen passion for social justice, my skills are embedded in engaging with clients from a trauma-responsive lens, that takes cognizance of a holistic, eco-systems approach of broader issues impacting individuals such as childhood, developmental, familial, social, mental, cultural, and economic context; and how these domains intersect across each other to impact the client.
My practice philosophy is anchored in a trauma responsive approach that is first client-centered (further acknowledging the client as the “expert” in their own affairs, and interwoven in a fusion of eclectic and evidence-based perspectives. At the beginning, I do not bring theoretical or pre-conceived ideas about you at our initial engagement, I simply get to appreciate your intrinsic worth and personality as a unique individual, and then we progressively work together to co-create meanings and perspectives that ultimately furthers your goals and interests for seeking therapy. As the therapy progresses, based on goodness of fit as well as my professional judgement, I draw inspiration from an eclectic blend of clinical approaches such as cognitive models, internal family system, attachment theory, psychodynamic models, dialectical behaviour therapy, amongst a range of interventions.
I have been described by my family and closest associates as an empath. Personally, I feel people's emotions just like they are mine. As a young adult, I struggled with this, because I could feel people, animals, and the environment. With development and greater self-awareness, I learned to get attuned with my emotions, regulate and embrace them. I am passionate about everything that encompasses mental health, human behaviour, and neurodiversity. I started out wanting to be a teacher, then I recognized that a therapist was a better suited approach to help people with managing big emotions. It turned out that this is the best negotiation I ever made with myself. I have not looked back since!
