Jamie Whitehead

she/her
Registered Clinical Counsellor

“Hi, I’m Jamie. I really believe that therapy can be both effective and fun. It doesn’t have to be super serious, difficult and awful all the time — helping people have those Aha! moments (as Oprah would say) and feeling more confident to keep moving forward in their lives is what it’s all about. I’m always excited and honoured when someone chooses me to be the person to be alongside them on their journey.”

Jamie is here to help with your anxiety, behavioural and emotional issues, life transitions, gender identity and parenting.

  • My Approach

I work from a trauma-informed, social justice lens in order to provide a safe space for everyone as much as possible, but of course there's always more to learn. I would use our first session together to understand your hopes and needs, and from there, we can build a treatment approach together. I typically use a Solution-focused framework and pull from Narrative Therapy and MCBT to find the best tools and strategies to help create momentum towards your goals. I have a strong mental health background and believe in using concrete techniques to help create change and hope as quickly as possible. My absolute favourite thing is helping young people find their voice and showing them that their hopes and dreams are just as valid and reachable as everyone else's.

  • My Philosophy

I've worked with youth and families for 17 years in different capacities, and I love to help people get excited about their futures. I grew up in a very small town, and I know the difference it can make to have just one safe adult in your life who is there to guide you. I wanted to grow up to be that person for others because everyone deserves a chance to be their best selves. I believe no matter your background, beliefs, sexuality, gender, or values, everyone should have a safe place to explore their thoughts and feel safe and supported.

  • My Why

I’ve always liked to solve problems. Somewhere along the way I realized I could help other people figure out how to think about their problems differently. This is going to sound cheesy, but helping others see all the strength, power and confidence inside them to solve their own problems is pretty incredible.
