General

If you have a mental health concern you want to work on, you can benefit from therapy. These issues may involve experiencing negative or unwanted feelings or issues with daily living or school/work/relationships. You may be wanting to learn more about yourself or develop positive coping strategies. You can be really struggling, or just hoping to get ahead of some issues you’re noticing. As long as you are working towards a goal, anyone can attend therapy.

Of course! We created our matching process to make sure every client is paired with a DiveThru Therapist that is the best fit possible. If you already know which therapist you’d like to see, you can book an appointment directly with them.

At DiveThru, our main focus is to find you the right therapist. With this in mind, we’ve made a therapist matching process that makes finding a therapist a breeze! Click the “Find A Therapist” button in the menu so we can learn more about what you’re looking for and once you’re ready, hit submit. You’ll then get your top 3 DiveThru Therapist matches and can browse through their profiles to learn more about each of them. From there, booking your first appointment is a short click away!

Whether you’re booking individual, couples’ or family appointments, the process is the same! To book your very first appointment, create a profile first. Once you’ve got your profile set up, you can browse your therapist’s schedule for openings and book whenever you’re ready! Jot down your username and password and in the future, all you’ll have to do is log in (log in button in the menu) to book your appointments.

If you’re a new client and you’re looking for a same-day booking, please reach out to us at 587-415-4910 and we can see if we can accommodate your request.

After booking your very first appointment, you will receive a few emails from us that will give you more info on next steps. First, we’ll have to take care of some important forms. You will finds these by logging into your DiveThru profile and clicking on Settings, then Forms. These will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. During your first session, you and your therapist will discuss consent in more detail, talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and go through any other questions you may have about therapy or the therapist’s approach. For now, all that’s left for you to do is jot down your appointment in your calendar and you’re set!

When booking your session, the platform will prompt you to enter and save your credit card information. To book an appointment, you have to have a card saved on file. At the beginning of each session, the clinic coordinator will ask you if it is OK to charge your credit card. If you choose not to charge your credit card, you can pay in cash or debit. If you are attending a virtual session, your credit card will be charged before or shortly after your session.

Our 50-minute counselling sessions to $220 and our 80-minute counselling sessions to $330. Our rates are reflective of the rates recommended by the Psychological Association of Alberta.

At DiveThru, we have a Reduced Rate Therapy program that you may be eligible for. To apply for the program, check out the Reduced Rate Therapy page on our website.

Yes! Our therapy services are covered by most insurance providers; please note that your insurance coverage depends on your provider, as well as your plan. The following insurance providers are confirmed as eligible for direct billing: Alberta Blue Cross, ASEBP, Canada Life, Medavie (which includes Veteran’s Affairs and RCMP), The Co-operators and GreenShield. Whether or not we can successfully direct bill them may still depend on your insurance plan and/or the type of therapist you have attended a session with. In the event that we are not able to direct bill to your plan, you can still submit your therapy receipt for reimbursement! If you have any questions about the new changes (or anything else!), please feel free to reach us at hello@divethru.com or 587-415-4910. As always, we’re happy to support you!

We request that you give us as much notice as possible when canceling or rescheduling your appointment so that we can open up that slot time for someone else who may really need it. For cancellations that are less than 48 hours in advance, we will be charging the full session price.

We know the therapist-client fit is so important to the therapeutic relationship and we will do everything in our power to make sure you and your DiveThru Therapist are the right match. If you feel that you may not be the right fit and would like to see a different therapist, please feel comfortable bringing that up with your current therapist! We promise they want what’s best for you. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, you can always email us at hello@divethru.com or give us a call (find the individual number on the studio info page).

We are currently serving Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario virtually. If you’re in Edmonton, you can also attend a mixture of in-person and virtual appointments.

A standard session is 50 minutes, with 10 minutes left over in the hour for your therapist to take notes from your session. Depending on the type of therapy and your circumstances, you and your therapist may decide if an 80 minute session is more fitting.

We know that sometimes there are a lot of nuances to people’s experiences that might just be easier to explain to a human! You can email our team or reach out to the individual studio you’re looking to attend. You can find the phone number on each studio page. In addition, we offer free 10-15 minute consultations with our therapists.

For Parents

We know how important the client-therapist relationship is to successful outcomes and we will do everything in our power to find the right fit for your child or youth. We encourage you to bring this concern up with your child’s therapist and provide any additional details that can help us find the right fit.

The very first session is when our DiveThru therapists will require your presence in order to obtain consent for your child or teen (anyone under 18 years of age) to participate in therapy. In this session, you and the child’s therapist can discuss family involvement in future sessions. If your child is 12 years or younger, we reserve that very first session for a meeting between the therapist and the legal guardian(s) only to discuss your child’s therapy plan. ***Please note: only legal guardians can provide consent. If parents are separated or divorced and have joint custody, BOTH parents will need to provide consent for the child or youth to participate in therapy. If one parent has sole custody of the child, please bring guardianship documents to the first session.***

Direct Billing

While we do everything on our end to have access to direct billing platforms for all insurance providers, we are limited by their respective platforms and approval processes. Beyond the providers listed above, all other insurance companies do not allow us to direct bill for psychological services; however, you are still able to submit your receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement on your end.

We can direct bill sessions with our Registered Psychologists (R.Psych) and Registered Social Workers (MSW) to Alberta Blue Cross, ASEBP, Canada Life, Medavie (which includes Veterans Affairs and RCMP), The Co-operators and GreenShield. For sessions with our Registered Provisional Psychologists, we can direct bill to Alberta Blue Cross, ASEBP, Medavie (which includes Veterans Affairs and RCMP) and GreenShield. To ensure we can direct bill for a specific therapist, please check their profile page, where we list their titles right below their names. For example, Holly Hollems is a Registered Provisional Psychologist and we would be able to direct bill the insurance providers listed above, with the exception of Canada Life.

If you will be receiving therapy services as part of a car accident claim, please call our studio before booking your first appointment.

The best approach is to familiarize yourself with your insurance plan and see what types of therapy services, if any, are covered. If you’re unable to find that information, the next step would be to contact your insurance provider and ask. Be sure to ask them if they cover Registered Psychologists, Registered Provisional Psychologists, and Registered Social Workers. You’ll note these titles are next to our therapists’ names in their profile pages.

We are unable to see how much coverage you have per year. We recommend contacting your provider to confirm your coverage. They need to verify your identity to provide this information, and therefore DiveThru cannot do this on your behalf.

Unfortunately, the majority of benefit providers don’t allow direct billing for psychological services, and this means we are limited by their respective platforms and approval processes. We will update our provider list with any future changes!

We can submit the claim through your primary benefits first. If the session cost is not fully covered by your primary plan, we would provide you with a receipt for the remaining balance, which you can submit to your secondary plan for reimbursement.

Unfortunately, in this case we will have to provide a receipt for you to submit for reimbursement through both plans, as the secondary plan will not let a claim be submitted to them without knowing what the primary plan covers. Since we cannot direct bill the primary plan to find this out, we cannot bill the secondary plan.

The platform we use to direct bill to CanadaLife doesn’t allow us to submit claims for registered provisionals psychologists. There wasn’t a reasoning provided as to why and we unfortunately have to follow their processes.

Depending on your benefit provider and plan, there can be limits on what they cover per session. Some companies cover the full amount, whereas others will only cover a certain percentage per visit. Either way, you will still be able to use all of your coverage for the year. If only a percentage is covered each session, your benefits will last a bit longer as the remaining balance is paid out of pocket.

No, we cannot direct bill your insurance for missed appointments or cancellation fees.
