Heather Armstrong

she/her
Registered Psychologist(Not Accepting New Clients)

“Hi! I use mainly a cognitive-behavioural approach, meaning that I explore how beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and reactions impact your perspective and daily life. I can tell you as someone with a history of perfectionism and control issues that it’s okay to seek help and support to learn how to adopt a different perspective and accept all parts of yourself.”

Heather focuses on relationship issues, self-esteem, perfectionism, stress and anxiety.

  • My Approach

When we work together, you can expect me to be personable, non-judgmental, and direct. I don’t hold myself back in the therapy room and at times, I will be challenging you (I welcome being challenged myself!). I like using silly metaphors and pop culture references in sessions. I use mainly a cognitive-behavioural approach, meaning that I explore how beliefs, thoughts, emotions, and reactions impact your perspective and daily life. I believe that we can create long-lasting desired changes by understanding and challenging our perspectives. Professionally, I have experience as a support for those struggling with withdrawal, disordered eating and working with Mohawk Indigenous and LGBTIQA* and sex-positive communities across Manitoba and Quebec.

  • My Philosophy

I believe that we all have unique strengths, perspectives, and drives to live the best life that we can, and that we can hinder ourselves as our harshest judge, jury, and executioner. I can tell you as someone with a history of perfectionism and control issues that it’s okay to seek help and support to learn how to adopt a different perspective and accept all parts of yourself.

  • My Why

Having a lengthy history as an *overly sensitive angel* who always wanted to help others, having an excitement and love for Psychology, and traversing my own mental health journey made it easy to pursue a counselling career. I overflow with gratitude and joy that I get to witness and support people in their own mental health journeys!
