Psychological Assessments for Children & Teens

Understand what your child or teen is going through—and how you can help.

At DiveThru, our child and teen assessments are designed to help families understand their child’s learning, attention, behavioural, and emotional challenges with clarity and care. Each assessment is led by an assessment-trained Registered Psychologist who takes a comprehensive approach so you can move forward with confidence.

When to Consider a Psychological Assessment for Your Child or Teen

A psychological assessment may be recommended if your child or teen is experiencing any of the following:

Icon34

Learning challenges: trouble with reading, writing, math, or understanding new concepts

Attention difficulties: struggles staying on task, following directions, focusing or feeling easily distracted

Icon34

Hyperactivity and impulsivity: struggles staying seated and acting without thinking in structured settings

Icon37

Emotional concerns: frequent worry, sadness, irritability or mood swings

Icon36

Behavioural challenges: frequent tantrums, defiance, or trouble following rules at home and school

Unexplained mental health changes: when something feels off and you can’t pinpoint why, our team will determine what type of assessment is fitting

If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone. We’re here to help you understand what’s really going on and support your child or teen in feeling more confident, capable, and understood.

Our Assessment Process

Every child’s story is different. That’s why our process is designed to be clear, supportive, and tailored to your family’s needs. Our team will complete a screening call to ensure we understand your child’s needs, and we’ll guide you through every stage to ensure you always know what to expect and feel supported along the way.

1

Screening Call & Clinical Interview:

Begin with a quick form and complimentary call, then meet with the psychologist to share your background, goals, and next steps.

2

Testing Sessions:

Your child completes standardized tests and/or questionnaires that help us better understand their experiences.

3

Feedback Session & Report:

Your psychologist walks you and your child through the results, outlining recommendations for next steps, and provides a detailed report.

Types of Assessments Offered

You don’t need to know which type of assessment your child or teen needs — our team will take care of that for you! We’ll select the right mix of tools, often drawing from multiple areas to help ensure an accurate understanding so your child or teen can get the support they need.

Below are a few main assessment categories:

Icon31

Psychoeducational Assessments

Psychoeducational (Learning) Assessments help identify your child or teen’s unique learning profile, such as cognitive and academic performance. These assessments can clarify whether a learning disability or related concern may be present, while also highlighting your child’s strengths.

Icon34

ADHD Assessments

ADHD Assessments for children and teens examine attention, focus, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in relation to learning and daily life. These assessments provide clarity around whether ADHD may be impacting your child’s academic or emotional well-being.

Gifted Assessments

Gifted Assessments explore how your child thinks, learns, and solves problems to understand their unique cognitive strengths. Identifying giftedness early helps parents and educators design learning experiences that nurture your child’s curiosity and potential.

Early Childhood Assessments

Early Childhood Assessments are designed for children under six and focus on early emotional, behavioural, and developmental patterns. The psychologist will conduct interviews, observation sessions, and administer rating scales to clarify early concerns and guide next steps. Families receive supportive insights and practical strategies to use at home, daycare, or preschool.

Mental Health Assessments

Mental Health Assessments help identify emotional, behavioural, or psychological concerns that may be affecting your child’s everyday life. Through clinical interviews, evidence-based questionnaires, and behavioural observations, we provide a clear understanding of your child or teen’s well-being and what they are experiencing.

The assessment can but not always result in a formal diagnosis. A diagnosis is only provided if the psychologist determines that it is appropriate based on the assessment data.

Even if your child does not receive a formal diagnosis, you may likely still receive valuable insights on their experiences and receive tailored recommendations on next steps from the psychologist.

At the moment, we are unfortunately not able to provide direct billing. If you have benefits, we strongly encourage you to check with your insurance provider regarding your coverage for reimbursement prior to booking. We provide detailed invoices after each session.
